Maintaining Anesthesia Certification (MAC) Program (effective January 1, 2026)
Starting January 1, 2026, the NBCRNA is transitioning from the Continued Professional Certification (CPC) program to the MAC program (Maintaining Anesthesia Certification). The AANA is changing the credit language to align with this change.
CPC Program -> MAC Program
- 60 Class A Credits -> now 60 MAC Ed CE Credits (excess MAC Ed credits can be applied to the MAC Dev credits requirement)
- 40 Class B Credits -> now 40 MAC Dev CE Credits
- Four Core Modules -> NOT required with MAC program
- Continued Professional Certification Assessment (CPCA) required every 8 years -> now called MAC Check
- 13 quarterly knowledge checks in four core domains (Airway Management, Applied Clinical Pharmacology, Physiology and Pathophysiology, and Anesthesia Equipment, Technology, and Safety)
- MAC Check is NOT a pass/fail assessment. If a CRNA is not found to meet the performance standard, they will be assigned remedial continuing education in the weak domain(s).
CRNAs will receive onboarding information for the MAC Program after they renew their certification (or when they become newly certified).
